'h-index' 는 연구 성과와 영향력을 측정하는 지표로, 연구자가 발표한 논문과 논문별 피인용횟수를 이용하여 학문적 역량을 측정할 수 있다. 만약, h-index 가 n 이라면 연구자의 모든 논문 중에서 최소 n 번 이상의 인용을 받은 논문이 n 개라는 의미이다. 조길원 교수님은 최근 Google scholar 기준 h-index 가 100을 돌파하였다. 이는 한국에서 Engineering & Technology 필드 연구자 중 11번째, Material Science 필드 연구자 중 15번째에 해당된다.
